Heidelberg faces its biggest test of 2010 so far as the Tigers take on West Preston Lakeside in the second semi-final with the winner to progress straight through to the Grand Final. West Preston will be confident after a gutsy come from behind win against Montmorency last week in the first semi-final. Despite trailing by 25-point at half time and looking like a beaten side the Roosters turned the game on its head in the second half, restricting Mont to one goal while adding a further six of their own to clinch a narrow 6-point victory. Heidelberg has had the week off after a disappointing nineteen point loss to the Magpies in the last home & away match of the season. The Tigers will be desperate to avenge the defeat and will be keen to avoid having to front up again next week in the preliminary final. |

HEIDELBERG has stormed its way into the reserves second-semi after a gallant 3-point win over Montmorency in a game that went into extra-time. With scores locked at 85 a piece when the final siren sounded players were left stunned and forced to endure a further 10 minutes of tough, relentless football. When the final siren eventually sounded to end the extra time period Heidelberg led by 3-points, with key defender Adam Jackson scoring the winning goal in the dying minutes. The Tigers looked gone for all money after trailing late into time on during the final quarter. Two thrilling goals saw the Tigers draw level and almost pinch the win with the last play of the game as the ball came agonisingly close to being rushed through for a behind Heidelberg stood tall during the two 5-minute blocks of extra time restricting Montmorency to 3 behinds while a long goal to Adam Jackson sealed the result and a memorable victory for Heidelberg. Better players included Aaron Crispe, whose constant pressure and work in the middle proved pivotal in the victory as well as veterans Matt Laing, Luke Trew, Stuart Mc Leod & Andy Martin. Next week both seniors & reserves travel to Preston City Oval to play on Sunday against West Preston and Bundoora respectively. |

This Saturday marks the conclusion of another home & away season for the Heidelberg Football Club and the beginning of what will hopefully be another successful finals campaign. Round 18 sees Heidelberg travel to Montmorency for the first time since the 2009 ANZAC day blockbuster when the Tigers met the Mont Machine under lights in the Northern League’s first night clash. In their last meeting, back in round 8, Heidelberg seldom looked troubled during the 55-point win. The Tigers had an impressive 20-more scoring shots on the day and fielded one of the youngest senior sides in years with a total of eight players between the ages of 18 & 22. Vice-captain Jason Kennedy’s efforts running off the half-backline earned him best-on-ground honours however he was not alone with Nick Miller, Danny Nolan, Brett Dobson and Saul Caddy with 5 goals all making handy contributions to the win. |

HEIDELBERG traveled to Montmorency for the last home & away match of the season full of optimism and this seemed justified as midway through the second term the Tigers led by 48 points. However a Heidelberg victory was not to be as the Magpies launched one of the most incredible comebacks seen in recent years. An incredible eight-goal third term set up the victory for the home side and by three quarter time scores were level. The trend continued into the final quarter as the Magpies hit the lead to the approval of the fans and gradually piled on the damage for the reigning premiers, who were left to lick their wounds. |

In Heidelberg's final home fixture of 2010, the Tigers proved too strong for finals bound Eltham in muddy conditions. The 15.12-102 to 6.4-40 victory ensures Heidelberg remains undefeated at Warringal Park for the fifth season in a row and by the same token will see Heidelberg finish on top of the ladder, a feat that has occurred every year since the Northern League's inception in 2007. In horrendous conditions that saw the Heidelberg oval resemble a quagmire, the Tigers were never troubled by the younger Panthers who are still searching for a win to keep their finals aspirations alive. |
