NETBALL

Three of Heidelberg’s leading young netballers, Claire Henderson, Claire Hardi and Lauren Jones, have been selected in the 2017 NNL 19U representative team. They will be coming up against the Eastern Football League on Friday May 12 at Parade College.

It’s fantastic to see Lauren and both Claire’s hard work and outstanding performances acknowledged with NNL selection. We are incredibly proud and encourage all players and club officials to support the girls by watching the game.

Player profiles

Claire Henderson

Claire’s parents encouraged Claire and her three siblings to pursue their sporting activities. Claire’s talent for sport was nurtured while she was in primary school, starting with Netta at the age of 7. She joined St Martin of Tours Netball Club as an Under 9 and during secondary school years was a member of the Diamond Valley Netball Club. Claire began her representative netball career playing for Banyule Netball Association Under 11 and currently plays in the Premier Open div 1 competition at Parkville. Claire also enjoys volleyball and played in the National School Volleyball Championships as well.

With her athletic ability, Claire is a naturally talented defender with the ability to cover all three defensive positions and on the odd occasion is thrust in to the attacking end (her favourite position is Goal Defence).

Claire was a member of the victorious NNL Division 3 (2015) and Division 2 (2016) team that won back to back Grand Finals.

Claire Hardi

Little did Claire know that playing netball at Moomba Park from 2009-2012 was the start of an exciting journey.  Claire went on to play domestic netball for Diamond Valley Netball Club from 2012-2015 and also began her representative netball career playing for Banyule Netball Association from 2013 and currently plays in the Premier Open div 1 competition at Parkville.

Claire has forged a reputation as a reliable and uncompromising defender and mid courter and has a string of representative honours already to her name.  It is clear that Claire has a bright future ahead of her.

Claire was a member of the victorious NNL Division 3 (2015) and Division 2 (2016) team that won back to back Grand Finals.  Claire is a positive and distinctive role model, not just for our younger players but also with her fellow netball players and coaches.

Throughout her short netball career, Claire has racked up a very impressive list of awards as below:-

Moomba Park – Best Junior Club Member 2011;

Diamond Valley Netball Clun – 2014 Peer Player Award;

Banyule Netball Association – 2013 Coaches Award;

Banyule Netball Association – Players Award 2014, 2015 and 2016;

Whittlesea Football Netball Club – Best & Fairest 2016

Lauren Jones

Lauren was a relatively latecomer to the netball world who started playing for Diamond Valley Netball Club in Grade 6, however she has taken to the game like a fish to water.

Lauren’s incredible athletic ability, speed and agility and absolute determination has made her a handful for any opposition.

Lauren is predominately a goal attack, but also plays wing attack and is keen to take the next step in her netball career.

She played for local representative teams Northern Storm in 2014 and Banyule Netball Association 2015-2016 and was selected in Jika Squad 2016 before catching the eye of VNL selectors at Boorandara in the 2017 Development Squad.

Lauren debuted for Whittlesea Football Netball Club in 2016 and was successful in winning Premiership in addition to being adjudged Player of the Match.

Lauren's other passion is tennis and she plays for St Johns Tennis Club in Section One and Pennant for Yallambie Tennis Club.
